30 October 2017 At the IAIS Implementation Committee meeting in Kuala Lumpur today, the Access to Insurance Initiative released its Annual Report. The report covers the period October 2016 to September 2017 and showcases the A2ii’s activities in supporting supervisors to make their markets more inclusive. It also examines key trends in inclusive insurance markets and their implications for developing and emerging country insurance supervisors.
2016 has been a productive year for the Access to Insurance initiative (A2ii). We have organised and participated in more events than ever before, pioneered our outreach into new regions as well as strengthened our partnerships with supervisors on the ground through the establishment of our first ever regional hub in South Africa.
Inclusive insurance markets develop best if policymakers commit to financial inclusion and enable existing and new market makers to innovate with appropriate policy measures followed by proper supervision to protect consumers.
A2ii's achievements over the past year were in line with the new focus, and the 2014 work plan is designed to entrench this role by creating direct opportunities for peer learning, building capacity, and supporting the implementation of regulatory change toward inclusive insurance markets.
