Using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in Inclusive Insurance Supervision

Key Performance Indicators are a powerful tool for supervisors to regularly evaluate the development, soundness and appropriateness of the inclusive insurance sector. ICP 9 on Supervisory Review and Reporting sets out that risk-based supervision should use both offsite monitoring and onsite inspection, and supervisors should collect the necessary information to conduct effective supervision and evaluate the insurance market.

Junto al lanzamiento de la tercera etapa de la A2ii, el año bajo revisión nos ha visto operar un extenso calendario de eventos, lanzar una nueva herramienta de capacitación (el Laboratorio de Innovación en Seguros Inclusivos), y aumentar nuestro apoyo más allá de África subsahariana, Asia y América Latina a Europa Central, el Caribe y el Oriente Medio y la región del norte de África.

Integrating a gender perspective in regulation and supervision is key to increasing financial inclusion. Compared to men, women form a significant part of the underinsured segment of the population especially in developing countries, lack of data, socio-cultural barriers and low levels of financial literacy are often cited as some of the main factors behind this. In addition, given the role that women play in managing household risks, it is of wider benefit to households if insurance products are designed that fit their needs.

InsurTech – Rising to the Regulatory Challenge | A summary of IAIS-A2ii-MIN Consultative Forums 2018 for Asia, Africa and Latin America

Over the course of 2018, the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), the Access to Insurance Initiative (A2ii) and Microinsurance Network (MiN) organised three Consultative Forums on the topic of 'InsurTech - rising to the regulatory challenge'. The forums provided a platform for in-depth discussions about the future of insurance and regulation given the rise of new digital technologies.

Supervisors play an important role in addressing risks and challenges that climate change poses on the insurance sector. This call took a closer look at the IAIS and Sustainable Insurance Forum (SIF) “Issues Paper on Climate Change Risks to the Insurance Sector." An overview of the impacts of climate change on the insurance sector including current and future risks, and potential supervisory responses were explored.
